Really listen to what others say
Coaching is a very individual activity. It differs by individual because you need to understand where the person is and what their needs are. That requires empathy.
Curiosity implies that you have a genuine interest in the other person -- in their thoughts, their dreams, etc.
we listen too often for an opportunity to have our say rather than to hear another's perspective

Don't enter a conversation with a pre-determined conclusion. Listen to what the other person says and come to a conclusion together

Welcoming, inviting body language: you leaned in, nodded often, said "hmmmm" often while Maria was talking. You effectively got Maria to focus on the issue by repeating back, asking her for an example of a particular situation, challenged Maria to articulate specifics.
Thoughtful and deliberate questions were critical
Asking her "what does success look like' and helping her realize that she's not far from it.
It was very helpful to have this demonstration after the discussion. It brought all the points together and made it reality.
